Yes, it is common to have bruising around the eyes and nose after the operation, especially during the first two weeks. The bruising tends to fade gradually and disappears completely within about 2–3 weeks.
During the procedure, the patient is given a local anaesthetic with sedation, so they do not feel any pain. After the operation, it is normal to experience some discomfort or a feeling of pressure, but the pain is generally easily managed with painkillers prescribed by our surgeon. The main discomfort stems from swelling and possible nasal congestion.
Recovery time varies from patient to patient, but generally any packing or splints are removed within the first week, whilst swelling and bruising are still present. After two weeks, most of the bruising has disappeared and the patient can resume a normal social life. After 3–4 weeks, light physical activity can be gradually resumed. The final results regarding the shape of the nose are fully visible after 6 months to 1 year.
