Liposuction

Plastic surgery

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery procedure that removes localised fat deposits that do not respond to diet and exercise. The procedure involves removing fat from specific areas of the body – such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms, back and neck – using fine cannulas connected to a suction device and inserted under the skin through small incisions.

The scars left by liposuction are usually small and located in hidden or inconspicuous areas. The incisions made to insert the cannulas are only a few millimetres long, and over time they tend to fade and become barely noticeable. It is, however, important to follow the post-operative instructions to ensure the scars heal properly.

Although liposuction is generally safe, it carries certain risks, as with any surgical procedure. The most common risks include infection, unevenness of the skin’s surface, scarring (usually small and inconspicuous), seromas (build-up of fluid under the skin), deep vein thrombosis, or other complications related to anaesthesia. Please follow our surgeon’s post-operative instructions carefully to minimise these risks.

Recovery time depends on the amount of fat removed and the areas treated. Generally, patients can resume light daily activities after 3–7 days, but it is advisable to avoid strenuous physical activity for at least 3–4 weeks. Swelling and bruising will gradually subside over the following weeks, and the final results will be visible after a few months, once the body has cleared the residual swelling.
