The historic building

The AraMedica clinic is housed in a historic building in the city of Lecce, built in the late 18th century and known as the "Vecchia manifattura tabacchi" (Old Tobacco Factory), which forms an important part of Lecce’s historical and industrial identity and the city’s modern heritage.
For over 50 years – from the end of the Great War onwards – it continued to operate without interruption as an industrial factory specialising in the processing, packaging and drying of tobacco, enjoying a period of great prosperity from the 1940s to the 1960s, thanks to favourable market conditions and state subsidies.
The definitive closure of the factories led, over time, to a re-evaluation of the entire imposing structure, which today represents a considerable architectural and social heritage. And which is now being given a new lease of life, with new economic and social functions.

The revamp

Renovated in 2022, the building retains its original layout, thanks to a minimalist, understated redesign with a metropolitan feel that highlights the structure’s history. In true industrial style, the spacious rooms are elegantly set within the building’s framework, which appears ‘alive’ and natural, with clean lines and raw materials: metal and copper to convey uniqueness, and concrete to lend continuity to the spaces and highlight the passage of time on surfaces worn by use.
A perfect and original blend of spartan and contemporary, enriched by one-of-a-kind furnishings, combinations of neutral tones and beams of light that create striking chiaroscuro effects.

Lecce

The capital of the province of the same name—Italy’s easternmost province—and the cultural heart of Salento, Lecce, in Apulia, is one of the most beautiful cities of art in our country. It never fails to amaze and captivate tourists and visitors alike. Its ancient Messapian origins and the archaeological remains of Roman rule blend today with the richness and exuberance of 17th-century Baroque architecture in the churches and palaces of the city centre, bearing witness to the originality of the architecture produced during the Kingdom of Naples.
The historic centre is a celebration of Lecce stone, a malleable material with warm colours that reflects the sun’s rays and illuminates the narrow streets in a breathtaking play of colours.
And as evening falls, new hues envelop the narrow streets of the centre, ready to fill with people and come alive thanks to the numerous evening entertainments that animate the city’s social life.
Places to visit: the Cathedral; the famous square named after the city’s patron saint, Piazza Sant’Oronzo; the majestic Roman amphitheatre; the Basilica of Santa Croce.
